Community Support Worker

As a Casual Community Support Worker for our Special Needs therapeutic program in Richmond, you will have the opportunity to be a part of a team that provides support, care, and mentorship to a youth client with Autism Spectrum Disorder and special needs in the therapeutic home. You will get to create a new relationship with an individual transitioning in. We are looking for candidates with an outgoing personality paired with an ability to set firm boundaries.

Qualifications:  

  • Post-secondary education in Psychology, ECE, ABA, Social Services, or related field and/or equivalent experience working with youth with ASD and special needs
  • Minimum one year of experience working with youth with ASD and behavioural challenges
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication
  • Effective de-escalation and crisis management skills 
  • Ability to follow behavioural support plans
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check and Ministry of Children and Family Development consolidated check (takes up to 6 weeks to process so please plan accordingly)
  • Proof of COVID-19 double vaccination record or exemption from the provincial health authority
  • Valid at least class “7N” Driver’s License

A sample of what you’ll be doing:

  • Maintaining a safe and healthy environment in the home
  • Building positive working relationships with the client, family, community members, and other professionals involved in the care team
  • Encouraging and modeling acceptable social standards and setting appropriate boundaries
  • Engaging in frequent interaction with clients, using appropriate means of communication
  • Facilitating recreational and/or educational activities
  • Driving clients to and from school, appointments, outings as needed
  • Performing household maintenance duties, preparing meals, administering medication, and assisting youth with personal care as needed
  • Collaborating with the clinical team and providing input into assessments and care plans

Salary: $21.70-$23.00/hour plus benefits
